We are looking for a Junior China Analyst!

AMO is a leading non-governmental, non-profit organization dedicated to research and education in international politics, active since 1997. Our activities encompass supporting the development of civil society, sharing Czech transformation experiences internationally, connecting young professionals from various sectors, and conducting research on foreign policy issues. Our work contributes to building an informed and open society founded on tolerance and mutual understanding.
About China Team: The AMO China Team analyzes the foreign policy of the People’s Republic of China, publishing both expert and public-oriented analyses. It provides recommendations for Czech and European policymakers, organizes high-level events, and leads international projects such as MapInfluenCE, China Observers in Central and Eastern Europe (CHOICE), Women Insight on China (WiCH), and participates in the EU-funded RESONANT project.
The team’s work focuses on the foreign, security, and economic dimensions of China’s presence in Europe, including its relations with Central and Eastern Europe, the Baltic and Western Balkan states, and their security implications. The team’s analyses have been referenced in the European Parliament, US Congress, and international media such as The New York Times, BBC, Le Monde, and Politico.
The team currently has openings for a Junior China Analyst specializing in Chinese foreign policy, especially with the focus on the Baltic, CEE, or Western Balkans states.
Type of work: full time
Start: January 2026
Place of work: Prague, Czech Republic, or one of the covered regions (Baltic, CEE, Western Balkans). Remote or hybrid work possible.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support research on China’s foreign, security, and/or economic policies.
- Analyze China’s engagement with specific countries in the Baltic, CEE, or Western Balkan regions.
- Prepare original analytical articles for the CHOICE website.
- Draft research summaries, analytical notes, and contribute to joint publications.
- Monitor and translate relevant news and policy documents into PR and communication materials.
- Support organization of events (workshops, roundtables, conferences, summer school).
- Assist with project implementation and administrative tasks.
- Engage with experts and policymakers under supervision of senior analysts.
Requirements:
- Completed M.A. or ongoing university education (PhD camdidate) in China Studies, International Relations, Area Studies, Political Science, Economics, or related fields.
- Demonstrated interest in China’s foreign policy, EU-China relations, or regional security.
- Strong writing and analytical skills in English; knowledge of a regional language (Czech, Polish, Lithuanian, etc.) is an advantage.
- Familiarity with academic or think-tank work is welcome but not required.
- Attention to detail, curiosity, and willingness to learn.
- Reliability, independence, and a collaborative spirit.
- Alignment with AMO’s mission and ethical standards.
