About China Team: The AMO China Team analyzes the foreign policy of the People’s Republic of China, publishing both expert and public-oriented analyses. It provides recommendations for Czech and European policymakers, organizes high-level events, and leads international projects such as MapInfluenCE, China Observers in Central and Eastern Europe (CHOICE), Women Insight on China (WiCH), and participates in the EU-funded RESONANT project.

The team’s work focuses on the foreign, security, and economic dimensions of China’s presence in Europe, including its relations with Central and Eastern Europe, the Baltic and Western Balkan states, and their security implications. The team’s analyses have been referenced in the European Parliament, US Congress, and international media such as The New York TimesBBCLe Monde, and Politico.

The team currently has an opening for a Deputy China Team Lead/Senior China Analyst specializing in Chinese foreign, security or economic policy and China-Europe relations.

Type of work: full time

Start: January 2026 (negotiable)

Place of work: Prague, Czech Republic. Remote or hybrid work possible.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as Deputy Team Lead responsible for the areas delegated to him/her by the China Team Lead with the direct management responsibility over junior analysts.
  • Lead and conduct advanced research and analysis on China’s foreign, security, or economic policies.
  • Assess China’s political and economic engagement in Europe and its implications for security.
  • Produce and oversee the publication of high-quality analytical reports, policy briefs, and commentaries.
  • Provide policy recommendations to governments, EU institutions, and civil society actors.
  • Supervise and mentor junior analysts and research assistants.
  • Represent AMO and present findings at international conferences, expert briefings, and in the media.
  • Build and maintain strategic partnerships with experts, think tanks, and policymakers in Europe and beyond.
  • Contribute to project design, proposal writing, and fundraising activities.

Requirements:

  • Completed university education in China Studies, International Relations, Political Science, Security Studies, Economics, or related fields.
  • A completed PhD degree is considered a plus.
  • At least 7 years of relevant professional experience, including in managerial roles, ideally in research, academia, policy, or media.
  • Proven expertise in Chinese foreign policy, security issues, or China-Europe relations.
  • Excellent analytical and writing skills in English; proficiency in an additional CEE language (e.g. Czech, Polish, Lithuanian, Serbian, etc.) is an asset.
  • Experience in project management, public speaking, and mentoring.
  • Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and think strategically.
  • Commitment to AMO’s mission and adherence to its Code of Ethics.
